The Drop Savers Water Conservation T-Shirt Design Contest

The Orange County Utilities Water Division is getting the message of water conservation and overall environmental stewardship to area students.

Our “Blue Thumb™ Jr. Detective” Program has reached approximately 2,000 students from Orange County schools. As part of this program, students in grades K-12 were invited to participate in a Drop Savers Water Conservation T-Shirt Design Contest to design a t-shirt with a water conservation theme. The contest, held at each school, resulted in thousands of entries being submitted for consideration. The winning posters were forwarded to the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) for a statewide competition.

Two Orange County public school students were awarded first place in their division by FSAWWA: Jakob Jovet, Arbor Ridge Elementary School (Division 2–3) and Ethan Worley, Little River Elementary School (Division K-1). The winners were presented with their award and a gift card from Target during the morning announcements at their schools. Congratulations!

The Water Color Project

Orange County Utilities and the Orlando Utilities Commission host an award ceremony and reception to honor students, teachers, and principals for their participation in The Water Color Project. This award ceremony takes place at the Orlando Repertory Theatre and focuses on students who decorate rain barrels and submit artwork for the Water Conservation Calendar.

The ceremony is a night of celebration, recognition, and most important of all, water conservation. Following the reception, the participants are invited to stay at the Orlando Repertory Theatre for a private viewing of a play. Winning students receive their artwork framed and $250 for their school’s art department.
